Dancing Mindfulness

I  am honored to be trained as a facilitate of Dancing Mindfulness. Prior to becoming a Clinical Counselor, I spent many hours of my life in a dance studio training in several dance forms with focus in ballet and modern dance. I have experienced both performing and teaching the art of dance throughout the years. Completing training in and pursuing a practice of Dancing Mindfulness allowed me to combine my passion of movement/dance with the mindfulness skills I have cultivated during my years of clinical practice.  My belief is that dance is for everybody & every body.  

What is Dancing Mindfulness?

What comes to mind when you think of the word “mindfulness”? I ask this question a lot when working with my clients. I have been given many answers over the years and a majority of them when asked have described a picture of some image of a peaceful sitting meditation. Yes, those images are one way to practice mindfulness AND there are others.

The practice of mindfulness = awareness (or noticing) of “just being” present in the moment, without judgment.  The practice of mindfulness can be facilitated through many different forms of movement.  Dancing Mindfulness utilizes dance as the primary medium (along with incorporating elements of music, yoga and meditation) of experiencing a mindfulness practice.
